The program aims to provide an opportunity for first year University students to feel connected to University life by integrating to some extent in the life of College.  The Non-Residential program will endeavour to provide a nurturing support network thereby attempting to stem the attrition rates of first year students from University.  This support will be provided by giving non-residential scholars access to some of the key benefits of College life these include:

  • Pastoral care as required

    Individual sessions will assist students to overcome some of the hurdles that they face as first years, such as, fitting into University life, feelings of loneliness and disconnectedness; learning time management, coping with being away from home.

  • Academic mentoring as required

    Individual sessions will assist students when they are unsure if their course choice is correct, assist in keeping them at University by finding ways to help them reach decisions to make study life more rewarding and enjoyable.

  • Access to weekly College tutorial program and meals prior to tutorials

    Tutorial Program – Small group tutorials (usually 3-6 students) will assist them to consolidate their learning in addition to the tutorial program within the University.

    Dining hall access – provide students with nutritionally balanced meals and give them an opportunity to meet with and form friendships with College students.This access would be available to students on the evenings they attend tutorials.

  • Social and cultural opportunities

    Social program – Integration into the ‘O Week’ College Program will assist with integration into University life. It will help students to develop a friendship network and assist with their enjoyment of a sense of belonging.

  • On-site parking

    a very limited number of spaces may be available for parking within the College grounds (this would be charged at the usual annual rate, for example in 2009 - $400).

  • Use of College tennis and music practice facilities during term.

    The College has a full sized tennis court available for use and music practice rooms.  The Women's College has two music practice rooms and a number of pianos.

    Costs
    are expected to be $800 per annum or $450 for a semester in 2010.
