Academic Support

At The Women’s College, every student is encouraged to pursue academic excellence and is supported to achieve to the best of their abilities. We provide a comprehensive program of academic assistance, which includes both peer-based support and connection, and personalised academic guidance offered by the Deputy Head of College, Dean of Students and Dean of Student Life to help students confidently navigate the transition to life at University.

Tutorials

The Women’s College offers a dynamic tutorial program, designed to complement the learning that students access at university, and encourage active engagement with coursework content. Tutorials run weekly in a group-based Q&A format, giving students the opportunity to ask questions, deepen understanding and learn collaboratively.

Many of the tutors employed by the College are young alumnae, who not only have the advantage of having completed and excelled in the subject content recently, but also intimately understand College life and can therefore connect more profoundly with students. The range of tutorials on offer is constantly growing and adapting to reflect the study areas and needs of current students.

Academic Mentors

Transitioning to university can be challenging, with new learning systems, unfamiliar expectations, and a whole new academic vocabulary. The Women’s College academic mentoring program seeks to bridge the gap and support a seamless transition to university life by connecting students with academically successful peer volunteers. All first-year students are matched with an Academic Mentor who is in their second or third year at College, and is studying the same course, or similar, at the same university. Each mentor supports a group of approximately 8 to 12 first-year students, allowing for the formation of connections between students, as well as with a more experienced student who can answer questions about university life.

Academic Resident Assistant

The Academic Resident Assistant is another point of support for students, assisting in the dissemination of important academic information and providing a valuable connection between students and staff. The Academic Resident Assistant and Dean of Students co-coordinate and lead the Academic Mentor team.

Women’s – more than just a place to stay

Centred on equity, Women’s is a place where women support women. The diversity, talents and personalities of almost 260 residents and 50 non-resident associates who call the College ‘home’ are celebrated and appreciated.
