Project Description

2023 Mary Wooza Scholarship Fundraising Dinner

An initiative of Dr Emily Garde (Alumna 1991 – 1993) and Joanna Harris (Alumna 1990 – 1992), the Mary Wooza Scholarship was offered for the first time in 2022 to fund a scholarship for a First Year resident of The Women’s College. The scholarship is awarded to a resident who lives in rural or regional Queensland and is experiencing financial or other hardship with respect to meeting accommodation expenses.

Alumnae from the 1988 to 1994 Year Groups were invited to support this scholarship initiative by attending a Fundraising Dinner on Saturday 22 April. Mary Wooza Scholarship recipients Hannah Meyer (2022) and Ella Williamson (2023) discussed the impact of receiving this scholarship. Dr Emily Garde and Joanna Harris (pictured in the left-most photo in the top row) also detailed why they developed this scholarship, saying, “We had such a wonderful experience at Women’s and recognise what a privilege it was to live on campus. Being from rural backgrounds, we recognise that many young women could not consider College life without financial assistance.”

The Women’s College thanks all alumnae and community members who have supported this scholarship.
