Our first Women of the World Q&A event for 2023 will feature a panel of experienced women working in the field of STEM. Join Women’s for this networking breakfast, followed by a panel discussion where you’ll have the opportunity to hear from and engage with panellists.

Our panellists include:

Medina Handley’s qualifications are in urban and regional planning, environmental management and science. She has close to 20 years of wide-ranging experience in local government, state government, consultancy and academia.

She has worked in strategic planning, development assessment, policy development, environment, resources, infrastructure and major projects roles.

Medina has worked in a variety of technical and leadership roles and for the past seven years, Medina has led the land use planning team at Seqwater.

Medina is passionate about best practice and has been the Convenor of the Planning Institute of Australia Queensland Awards for Excellence for eight years, and a Judge for the National Awards for Planning Excellence between 2017 – 2020.

Dr Sally Shrapnel is a general practitioner with more than 20 years’ clinical experience, having worked in indigenous, rural and urban settings in both Australia and the United Kingdom.

Sally has a Masters in Bioengineering from Imperial College, London, and a PhD from The University of Queensland (quantum computing). She currently works as an Associate Professor in Data Science and Physics at The University of Queensland.

Sally is Deputy Director of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems, where she works on topics in quantum artificial intelligence and quantum foundations. Her research combines theory, methodology and applications across a broad range of disciplines.

Bianca Watt began her career in technology well before her university graduation. Bianca became involved in the launch of Uber in Brisbane while still at Women’s, and in the following years worked on the launch of Uber Eats across Queensland.

Her role at Uber took her to Sydney, where she focused on consolidating and offshoring customer support for restaurants and fraud-related concerns across the Asia-Pacific region. During this time, Bianca was flying between Sydney and Brisbane to finish her double degree in economics and tourism management, finally graduating in December 2019.

Recently, Bianca worked in various strategy and operations management roles at Australian-founded start-ups. This year, Bianca re-joined Uber Technologies as a Senior Strategy & Operations Manager, focusing on the new Uber One membership product.

Bree Zannes graduated from The University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Mechanical and Space Engineering and Business Management in 2004. She has 18 years’ experience in aviation, having worked on a diverse range of products.

She has worked in a variety of technical engineering and leadership roles, currently holding the position of Manager Engineering Quality for Airbus Australia Pacific. Her career has taken her globally, having worked in the UK, France and Australia within the Airbus Group.

In 2017, Bree established the Graduate Engineering program for Airbus in Australia, and is a strong advocate for STEM, both professionally and personally.
