Marie Myers Scholarship

The Women’s College is delighted to announce the availability of the Marie Myers Scholarship.

This scholarship is part of the UQ Residential Scholarships Scheme, and was established in 2023 by Marie Myers (alumna 1984 – 1985) under the UQ Create Change Scholarship Match initiative. This scholarship will support students experiencing financial hardship to offset their residential fees at The Women’s College.

In an interview published in our 2022 Impact Report, Marie explained her reasoning behind establishing this scholarship, saying she has a deep commitment to education. “I am passionate about diversity and firmly believe it is important to give back and help support the next generation of women professionals and leaders.”

Marie also spoke of her background, saying “When I was growing up in the Australian bush, girls were not encouraged to pursue higher education or even careers. I lived this journey myself. I wanted to establish this scholarship to enable more young women to achieve their academic goals and career dreams. The path forward can be difficult, and the financial burden of higher education may seem insurmountable. This scholarship may open the door for deserving women to be successful.”

Since graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (1987) and Bachelor of Economics (1988) from UQ, and then moving to the United States of America, the majority of Marie’s career has been with Hewlett-Packard (HP). For more than 24 years, she has held numerous leadership roles in finance and is currently the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at HP, where she is responsible for financial operations, business decision support, tax, audit, treasury, and investor engagement.

The Marie Myers Scholarship will be awarded for the first time in 2024.
